Historically Speaking - By Andi Marple Wittwer
WE ARE ALL HISTORIANS
I was given verbal information by reader Joan Cervenka of the Forest Service about a reference in the last column. Connie Miller, a long time historian of the Hayward Area and publisher of the Visitor magazine, stopped by my office and dropped off a newspaper article to supply me with needed research information. Lyle Leason sent the photograph for this week's History Clips and I am waiting for more of his story to save for the CCC files at the Society. Shirley Knapp of Bear Creek, Wis. sent me a flour sack last month because I was curious about repeated references to flour sack towels, aprons and clothing. I was just amazed by the beauty of the material and you will see it soon in an exhibit at the Museum. So many others have written or published their memories like Art Swan of Shell Lake and Helmi Voight of Spider Lake. Some have emailed special moments about this area in their memories which I collect and store. |

We are all historians in some way, I have proof every day. I collect verbal, written and artifact histories. For example, I recently received a letter from Joyce Menzel with information about a Springbrook family that included a map.
